The soldiers who were killed were buried on the battlefield with wooden crosses.

Arthur Hartsuff was explaining to his wife that he and the platoon had to defeat the Sioux force of over 4000 to their force that was nearly half the size.

The New York Times wrote a front page article about the battle of little big horn, or as it says on the front page THE LITTLE HORN MASSACRE. They wrote it on July second, seven days after the initial battle.

The article written about little big horn that is titled… MEMORIAL OF BIGHORN. Because after the battle was over, there was a large stone memorial with the names of everybody in the regiment built on the battlefield.

General custer was one of the youngest and most respected generals in the sioux war and many other battles. He was known as a strategic genius.

The battle lost about 260 people, nearly 40 percent of their pre-battle strength. And General Custer's family lost five family members that day.
